What do I think about when I hear the word cheese? Why, cheese of course. More accurately, I think of little squares of orange-yellow or white. The Kraft Singles cheese has obviously been very influential on this topic. Cheese brings back memories of peeling back the flimsy plastic wrapper carefully, so as to not rip the cheese. Then, I would nip the edges and corners to make it last as long as possible while retaining the shape as a square. Sometimes i would turn the square into a circle as best as i could when the corners started bugging me. I don’t know, but I was a pretty strange girl back then. Now I don’t like cheese as much, except for mac and cheese, and the delicious mozarella+tomato+basil+balsamic vinaigrette combination for sandwiches or salad.

International Week
This week, all the cultures and colors of the school combined to form International Week! The most exciting event was probably International Night. I had heard many stories about how high school International Night was much better than the middle school’s, and I was looking forward to eating so many food samples and watching the show. Unfortunately, I had a viola lesson right before the 7:50 show, so I had to arrive only ten minutes before the show. This was a great disappointment, as most of the food was already taken. However, I did manage to get some noodles from Japan and two types of rice from this other country that I can’t remember. Knowing I was already ten minutes late for the show, i quickly shoved down the food and rushed into the auditorium. The show was indeed much better than middle school’s. The fashion show was funny, and all of the acts were fun and interesting. The first one, Flying Kites, was a classic and very well done. I saw many performers for India, and I have always loved the uniqueness of indian dancing. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many Jay Chou performances. Tony’s performance of Tui Hou was great, and I especially loved Panda Express. One of their songs, Fearless, was my first Jay Chou song ever, and it was great seeing the group dance and sing to it, especially the really high part. Unfortunately, I told my mom that the show ended at nine, so she came to pick me up at that time and I had to leave early, missing what I heard was the school’s traditional What Can Brown do for You performance. I was pretty disappointed, but still happy that I got to see so many great acts.
Election Day
Election Day is tomorrow, a day in which all the adults spend hours in line waiting for their turn to vote, while all the children get school off in the middle of the week. I am looking forward to being able to sleep in and get a decent breakfast. Hopefully tomorrow will be a day of relaxation and rest. I want to be able to catch up on all the sleep that I’ve lost and just lay in my bed reading and munching away at my halloween candy. If I feel like it, I’ll go to the mall and get some winter clothes and get something to eat and a starbucks coffee or something. At night, if time permits, I might go to Lifetime to swim or treadmill. They also have pretty good sandwiches.
However, I know that this dream day is too perfect to be true. I might be able to catch up on sleep and have a good breakfast, but most likely I will be worried about any homework or projects I have. I need to start some of my projects. I also haven’t finished my neg case for debate yet, and I need to work on that if I want to stand any chance for going to the Carrollton tournament. Also, my practice for viola and piano has been lacking, and I need to spend at least a few hours on that. It seems as though I will be very busy tomorrow, but knowing myself, I will probably procrastinate until the very end and just spend the entire day on my computer, wondering what to do first and getting very distracted. Either way, I am looking forward to the day off school tomorrow.
Lying vs. Deception
When it comes to lying, perhaps nobody is innocent. Not one person- even the sweetest little angel has probably told a lie. Lying can be defined to mean “to make an untrue statement.” In this context, everyone has probably lied, as even the innocent make-believe games that are familiar to every child are lies, not to mention all those fiction books out there. There are two sides of lies. They can be true, “white lies”, or particularly harmful. Lies float around everywhere: at school, at home, even in the car. From the unknowing student who thought the test was a day later to the child that was going to make ramen for dinner but didn’t, lies are everywhere, every day whether people are aware of it or not.
Deception, however, has a more negative connotation to it. This is the word most associated with lying and dishonesty. Whenever it is used, I get the feeling that its something bad, like a spy thats secretly a spy for the other nation giving false information to the country that he supposedly serves. This is dishonesty of the lowest kind, and include cheating and lying to get out of trouble. It almost always comes back to the deceiver. I admit, I have sometimes asked others for information or answers to homework or classwork. I think most people are a culprit of this, because the temptation of knowledge or shortcuts are very overwhelming. I have definitely been lied to, decieved, many times before; I won’t go into specifics, but my trust for that person was immediately destroyed. I had my suspicions for months, but I finally unleashed my stubborn inner soul and cornered the person into admitting it
. Deception is never good, especially because it will always come back and harm the person in the long run.
